Pretty Little Menu Board

If you'd ask my friends what comes to mind when you say my name, you might hear this over and over...meal planning Nazi. Truth be told, they're not too off the mark with that description. I love to KNOW what I'm making for dinner week in and week out. Some call it controling, but I like to think of it as good planning!

It may be surprise to some of you, knowing how much I love a good planned out meal, at the way I display my meals for the week. It's really quite boring!

This is my trusty meal planner chalk board. As you can see, it's seen better days. I could easily scrap the darn thing and just use the laptop as I have a bulk of the lists and meal recipes stored in my Ziplist account.  I have to say though, there is something about that little chalk board and the act of crossing a meal off the list. I feel like I've accomplished something and it brings a little rush of adrenaline each time.

So even though we live in a world where the need for paper and writing surfaces is being replaced by the new gadgets of the digital age, I'm sticking to my chalk board and my list crossing excitement!

The only problem that remains is my menu board is awfully dull and that just won't do! No, not at all!!
Look at that thing! It's so boring and gross. Time for BIGGER and BETTER....

Here I goooooo!

I started with this.

I bought it at a yard sale. Not any yard sale though. This yard sale was being run by people who were completely drunk. I've never in my life been to a yard sale where I felt drunk too, just by breathing too close to a  person who reeked of beer. She wasn't even trying to sell the stuff, she was giving her items away. As if that wasn't enough, her shirtless husband shows up after a beer run (I guess one case just isn't enough for two people in the hot sun) and they crack open a couple more. Geez! Anyway, I made my purchase and we got out of there! Scary.

So I started with the picture above and here's what I've come up with:

It's a pretty little chalk Board.

  1. I just want to say I completely relate to this. I too love to plan EVERYTHING. My friends say I don't know how to be spontaneous, but I think that spontaneous = trouble..lol I will take my well planned out life any day:) I am def going to try this. I may actually make a meal planner and a 2nd one (smaller) for a grocery list. As we run out of things or get low on them right them down and then before I got to the store snap a photo with the "technical" IPhone and wala! Thx for the great idea.
