Blowing the dust off a wedding dress

I've been M.I.A. the past two days! I wish I had some cool reason why, like I was feeding the hungry or wrestling alligators, but I wasn't. No, I was doing my second least favorite thing in the world (the first being cleaning pee off the toilet seat)- the laundry!

My laundry situation is the perfect storm- I have a very small laundry room, four kids and no ambition. Alone those three things can be overcome. Put them all together and you have a disaster and that exactly what was happening in my laundry room this week! So I took two days, yes two, to do my laundry, fold it and put it away. Score one for me!

Now that it's all finished, I can move on to my next project- fixing up my wedding dress for a fun photo shoot that I have scheduled for two weeks from now. I am so excited! The idea of the shoot is Trash the Dress. You wear your wedding dress in potentially dirty situations and have your picture taken. All right I'm not the best at explaining this so I'll show you an example of my very talented friend Nathan Desch's work. Here are some friends of mine in their photo shoots:

Aren't those ladies beautiful? I really have gorgeous friends, don't I? Anyway, my photo shoot is two weeks away and I'm preparing to fit back into my dress. HA HA! Yeah it's not a pretty sight.

Okay I'm not going to sit here and complain about how fat I am, because I know I'm a slight person with Dolly Parton-sized boobs and NO butt- true story! I look at that dress though and I think was I really ever that small? You have to understand, two months after that picture below was taken, I was with child and four kids later it never was quite the same!
So in my research I found that I can add a corset back to my dress so that I can fit back into it! This should be interesting. Also interesting was the amount of stains all over the front of my dress when I pulled it out of the storage box:
I have no idea what that is or why the dry cleaner wasn't able to get it out. I guess I spilled wine or something. I'm such a winebibber.

Stayed tuned to see how it turns out!

  1. my mother and i cleaned my debutante dresses (basically wedding gowns) by filling the bath tub with luke warm water just ankle-depth. then squirt a touch of dawn in it. then spray the dress with spray-n-wash and let it soak in the dawn water. but really spray it good with spray-n-wash (you know that red bottle?) let it soak for a while then use your fingernail to scrub it out!
