Fabric Circle Wall Art

It's too bad that all the good blog names about loving nap time are already taken, because this blog has really become all about the stuff I do when the kids are asleep! Oh well, my purpose still is to make my life more simple. I guess that isn't always possible with the level of crazy I experience on a daily basis! Someday though...someday...sniff.

In the meantime, here is some wall art for you to enjoy.

This craftastic art piece was made with paper, fabric, and thread. Wanna see how I made it?

It all started with this a brown piece of paper. Then, I started singing a song, something like "What should I make today?" (this is where I find my inspiration) Okay, not really. I had been looking a cute little iPhone cases  at iHeart my iPhone etsy shop...not that I actually have an iPhone. It was one of those blog rabbit trails, you know what I mean? Anyway. I loved the idea of using thread graphically and wanted to try it in my own project.

Back to the brown paper. This little treasure was left over from a roll of wrapping paper. It was a nice size and weight and I knew I could use it somewhere.

Next I looked in my sewing basket for fabric scraps. I had a few really cute remnants from a quilt I made a few years ago that I really liked and knew would go  nicely on the bland wall of the boy's bedroom.

I found an old frame and traced and cut the brown paper to fit the frame. Brown paper needed a little color, so I painted it with some blue-gray paint I had. I could have used decorative paper instead, but I wanted to honor the brown paper instead of toss it in the trash.

I then took that fabric, which was already cut into triangles and fixed heat and bond to the back. I wanted to cut them into 1 1/2 inch circles and the heat and bond will keep the shapes from fraying. iHeart heat n' bond!!

I used a roll of thread to trace the 1 1/2 inch circles on my fabric and then cut them out until I had a pile of 48 circles.

With my blue-gray paper laying flat (this took some double-sided sticky tape magic!) I placed the circles in a pattern on the paper. When I had the pattern I liked a attached the circles with double sided tape.

After all the circles were attached I wanted to map out the graphic lines I was going to sew into the paper. Using a toy bowl- Hey! Sometimes you just gotta use what you have handy!- I traced a large circle pattern over the small circles.

I popped that paper in the sewing machine an sewed over the lines I traced on the fabric and paper...

...and Ta Da!! Put intot he frame and there you have it: Fabric, paper, thread wall art!

Have a lovely weekend!!
